Roman Period – 410 (AD)

The area we now know as Staffordshire has several prominent Roman sites. Watling Street, among the first major road built by the Romans following their invasion of Britain, runs past Lichfield, just south of Sandon. Nearby is the military town known to the Romans as Letocetum, Wall, which was built at the vital intersection between Watling Street and Ryknield Street.

Evidence of other Roman activity has been found throughout the area, with defensive earthworks remaining from a possible camp at Holly Wood, just north of the B5027 near Hardiwick north-west of Sandon and a hoard of Roman coins found at Burston. However, little information remains of their activities in Sandon.
